02.02.2010 It's a drivers road .......

Today I started my journey to Gisbourne to visit Adrian and Kate and they had warned me that the road around the Eastern Cape was a drivers road. They aren't wrong - I was either hugging the coast or hugging the cliff overlooking the coast - felt like I should have had a smart little open topped red sports car and with my silk headscarf blowing behind me in the breeze. The road twists and turns up and down with fantastic bay views and highlands - a beautiful drive. I did think of all of the bikers I know and how they would love it. Surprisingly I didn't see many but when I did it was a Brit - well the bike had a brit plate on it. It can't have been Pete Hodgson because it wasn't a BMW! I broke my journey at Te Kaha and could hear the ocean from my room above the bay all night. Not many pics on the way I'm afraid not many stopping places and the road took all my concentration. Only stopped once for a coffee and spotted this Maori welcome arch. Was glad to get to my overnight stop in Te Kaha and watch the sunset as I had dinner...

More diriving tomorrow.
