27.02.2020 More walking in Abel Tasman ...

Well I did come here to walk after all - would be so easy just to sit on the beach in the sun but when did I ever do anything that what easy? Today's walk took me from Anchorage back to Marahau 13 kms in total. Used the water taxi again to get to Anchorage. Bit of a flash skipper today who was playing to the crowd - I was sat in the back of the boat and got totally soaked as he bumped along in the wake of a larger boat and did a couple of donuts as we pulled into the bay. Still it was warm - only downside was that my hair looked like Wurzel Gumming for the rest of the day - nothing new there though so no pictures :):)

The walk was a bit different, after a scramble up the beach to the top of the ridge I seemed to spend more time today in the canopy of the forest and the large ferns that are native to New Zealand. In maori culture the unfurling fern frond is called The Koru which is a symbol for new beginnings, new life, growth and harmony - perhaps that is why I am so drawn to it - lots of new beginnings for me right now.

I was glad of the shade under the canopy of the trees which sometimes felt like I was in the rainforest. Small streams and waterfalls from the mountains heading down to the estuary gave some dampness and interesting plants along the way. Gorse and blackberries I recognised but not the two berries that I have photographed - maybe one of you gardeners out there will know.? It was a hot day and I was glad when I saw the last three bridges over the estuary and the Park Cafe where I would be able to get a cold beer after my walk...

Another great day which ended with sharing a meal prepared by one of the guests at Serenity Lodge where Maureen was staying. Two Swiss, four Germans and we two Brits - plenty to talk about!!!
